Zhou Yuan, Sales Manager, Kinghelm Electronics Sales Department 1
As the Chinese New Year approaches, weary travelers return home, and wanderers long for family reunions. Like many others, I embarked on my journey back to Meishan, my beloved hometown. Through the car window, the scenery flashed by like a reel of film, but my heart had already arrived at that familiar place, where my fondest New Year memories reside.
The moment I set foot in Meishan, the festive spirit enveloped me. Red lanterns adorned the streets, filling the air with joy and celebration. Vendors lined the roads, their stalls brimming with all kinds of New Year goods—vibrant paper cuttings, auspicious Chinese knots, and delicious treats like crispy sesame cakes and sweet rice flower candy. The unmistakable aroma of cured meats lingered in the air—a scent synonymous with the Meishan New Year. Waxed pork ribs and sausages hung under eaves, their glistening sheen and rich fragrance awakening childhood cravings.

On New Year's Eve, the entire family gathered to prepare the reunion dinner. In the kitchen, the sight of elders bustling about was the warmest scene of all. My mother skillfully chopped vegetables, while my elder brother tended the fire. The sound of sizzling food in the wok was the very sound of home.
A Meishan New Year's Eve dinner is always a feast, and Dongpo Pork Hock is undoubtedly the star of the table. The tender, gelatinous skin and succulent meat, soaked in flavorful broth, melt in the mouth, leaving a lingering taste of nostalgia. Dongpo Pork, with its glistening red hue and perfectly balanced fat-to-lean ratio, is another must-have dish, embodying the comforting flavors of home. As the family savored the meal, laughter and conversation filled the air—this was the essence of New Year’s joy.
After dinner, we sat together to stay up for the New Year. With the Spring Festival Gala playing on TV, we cracked sunflower seeds and reminisced about the past year. Meanwhile, the children ran outside, lighting fireworks that burst into dazzling colors against the night sky, illuminating their innocent smiles. When the clock struck midnight, fireworks erupted across Meishan, transforming the city into a dreamlike spectacle. In that moment, I felt the pure joy of the New Year and a renewed hope for the future.
On the morning of the first day of the New Year, everyone donned new clothes and visited relatives and friends. The streets bustled with cheerful greetings and well-wishes. One unique tradition in Meishan is the giving of red envelopes, symbolizing blessings for health, happiness, and academic success. The beaming faces of children receiving their red envelopes reflected the simple yet profound joy of the New Year.
Beyond family visits, Meishan’s New Year celebrations feature various traditional folk activities. Dragon and lion dances are a highlight, their dynamic performances accompanied by the rhythmic beat of drums, drawing waves of applause from onlookers. Sichuan opera performances, with their captivating vocal techniques and exquisite artistry, immerse audiences in the rich cultural heritage of the region.
A First Glimpse of Sansu Temple
On the afternoon of the first day, with the sun casting a golden glow, I wandered toward Sansu Temple. Even before stepping through its gates, I was struck by the seamless blend of ancient charm and festive vibrance. The entrance was adorned with freshly written couplets—bold black ink on red paper—adding a sense of solemn elegance to the time-honored temple.
Inside, towering ancient trees shaded the pathways, and red walls with dark-tiled roofs stood dignified under the sunlight. Fallen ginkgo leaves carpeted the stone paths in brilliant gold, as if nature had laid down a soft blanket. In the pond, withered lotus leaves floated on the surface, their remnants evoking a quiet beauty. Occasionally, a few small fish darted through the water, sending ripples across the stillness.
Embracing the New Year Spirit at Sansu Temple
The temple was festooned with red lanterns, their glow harmonizing with the ancient architecture to create a uniquely festive atmosphere. Visitors poured in—locals bringing friends from afar to share in the city’s cultural legacy, and travelers seizing the New Year holiday to trace the footsteps of the renowned Three Sus (Su Xun, Su Shi, and Su Zhe). Children weaved through the crowd, their laughter echoing as they clutched freshly made sugar figurines, their faces alight with joy.
Drawing Inspiration from the Three Sus
In a spacious courtyard, a troupe of performers dressed in traditional attire staged a short play about the Three Sus’ lives and literary achievements. Their vivid storytelling transported the audience back a thousand years to a golden age of literature and intellect. The captivating performance deepened our appreciation for the enduring charm of the Three Sus’ cultural legacy.
The Timeless Charm of Sansu Culture
The Chinese New Year is like an invisible thread, weaving together the hearts of all who cherish their homeland. Returning to Meishan this year, I experienced a New Year rich in warmth, tradition, and human connection. It was not just about the festive meals or the lively celebrations—it was about the profound ties of family and the deep-rooted love for my hometown.
No matter how far life takes me, Meishan will always be my warmest harbor. Every moment spent here is a treasured memory, strengthening my longing for the land that nurtured me.

The company firmly upholds a “people-oriented, detail-driven” philosophy, continuously improving management practices with a spirit of daily progress. At the Kinghelm and Slkor English Corner, the company even provides free milk tea for every employee, making the sessions lively and engaging. The workplace culture is straightforward, with a well-established and objective evaluation system. Instead of merely managing people, leaders are tasked with discovering and nurturing each employee’s strengths, unlocking their full potential.
Even the cleaning staff, though outsourced, are valued members of the team. They receive the same small perks as employees, such as fruit and afternoon tea. During the New Year, General Manager Song Shiqiang personally hands out red envelopes to every employee—including the cleaning staff—as a token of appreciation. In return, the office is always spotless, with no corners overlooked, and no need for supervision.
At Kinghelm and Slkor, genuine sincerity outweighs clever tactics. A workplace that fosters trust, appreciation, and fairness is far more powerful than any strategy or empty words.
