Hu Houkun highlighted the timeliness of 5G+ industrial internet development, noting the industry's consensus, capability, and practical experience. He pointed out that there is a widespread agreement on the need for digital, networked, and intelligent transformations within the industrial sector. With China boasting the best 5G network globally, significant progress has been made in applying industrial internet solutions across industries. Hu Houkun stated that these advancements would provide robust technical support for the digitalization of industries, as 5G has already been applied in over 20 sectors, with more than 5,000 innovative projects generating both commercial and substantial social value.
In discussing how to propel the development of 5G+ industrial internet, Hu Houkun identified three key initiatives: continuous innovation, security assurance, and industry collaboration. He emphasized the importance of innovating around foundational network capabilities, industry terminals, and applications. Hu Houkun specifically noted that 5G networks must cater to diverse production environments across different industries. The ICT industry must continue to innovate in network performance and engineering capabilities such as planning, construction, maintenance, and optimization to enhance the foundational service capabilities of 5G. He also predicted that by the end of 2020, the price of 5G modules would drop to $100, and further reduce to around $40 by the end of 2022, significantly enriching the 5G terminal ecosystem.
Hu Houkun stressed that the digitalization of industries must prioritize security assurance. He outlined three new changes facing the 5G+ industrial internet: the application of new technologies, massive connectivity, and complex business scenarios. These factors complicate security management and significantly increase exposure to potential risks. To address these challenges, Hu Houkun recommended building a security framework and accelerating the upgrade of industry security architectures. He advocated for close collaboration across the entire industry chain to establish a robust security assurance system.
Finally, Hu Houkun called for strengthened industry collaboration through “understanding demand, establishing standards, and building platforms.” He shared leading practices from the healthcare, port, and coal mining sectors, encouraging more industries to develop standards for 5G applications swiftly. According to Hu Houkun, this is critical for the rapid promotion of 5G across various sectors. He noted that governments and leading industry players are actively creating industry alliances and 5G innovation centers to foster application innovation. “Huawei is committed to increasing investments and working with local governments, industry organizations, and leading enterprises to build public service platforms that promote 5G application innovation and the cultivation of integrated talent,” stated Hu Houkun.
Looking to the future, Hu Houkun reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to its customers and partners. He declared, “We will maintain strategic focus, enhance ICT infrastructure, and facilitate the integrated development of 5G and the industrial internet, contributing to the digital and intelligent upgrades of various industries.”
