With the increasing intelligence of electronic products, more and more wireless communication products are designed and produced. Wireless gateway, as one of the representatives, has shown explosive growth in recent years. In such products, there are many RF circuits. And these RF circuits inevitably need to use RF connectors to interact with the outside world. As wireless gateways usually require high-gain antennas, most of them will choose SMA connectors for reliable connection.
In such applications, SMA connectors are often connected to power devices such as RF front-end amplifiers, responsible for transmitting wireless RF signals from the circuit board to external antennas, as shown in the figure below:

Technical challenges and opportunities for Kinghelm
In practical applications, SMA connectors are often exposed to the outside of the shell. Without the protection of the shell, they often encounter some problems.
Firstly, the hard connecting surface of the connector, which is exposed to the air for a long time, may be oxidized or corroded by oxygen in the air or salt spray, resulting in a high contact impedance when connecting and leading to connection failure with the external antenna.
Secondly, a strong induced voltage from the external antenna may cause insulation breakdown of the connector, resulting in device or even entire product damage.
The above two situations often occur in industrial applications. In such harsh conditions, the reliability and stability of SMA connectors are often tested.

The SMA connector is designed in accordance with the standard impedance of 50Ω for RF coaxial transmission lines to ensure impedance consistency throughout the entire transmission line. When making a hard connection, it can fully connect and is not easily affected by air oxidation, ensuring it has ultra-low contact impedance of internal conductor ≤3mΩ and external conductor ≤2.5mΩ. This avoids signal attenuation or even disconnection caused by the contact impedance being too large due to long-term exposure to air oxidation. It can ensure that the gateway can transmit wireless signals stably and reliably during long-term operation.
At the same time, the insulation material uses excellent PTFE, which can be used for a long time at -180 to 260°C and is resistant to acid, alkali, and organic solvents. In terms of design, the product uses a structure without gaps that directly connects the cable insulation medium with the interface, improving product integrity, and ultimately giving it an insulation withstand voltage of ≥1000V, making the wireless gateway withstand external induced voltage breakdown problems under harsh conditions.
